How Is Blepharoplasty Performed?

The surgery will be an outpatient procedure performed in our accredited surgical center. Your doctor will start by administering local anesthesia to numb the area around your eyelids. They will then make small incisions in the treatment areas and get to work adjusting and/or removing excess skin and fat. The specifics of the surgery will depend on your unique treatment plan. Finally, your surgeon will close all of the incisions. In total, blepharoplasty takes approximately one to two hours.

Oftentimes, a brow lift will be performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the entire upper face.

Before & After

What Can I Expect From the Recovery and Results?

You can typically return home within a couple of hours of your blepharoplasty procedure. For up to two weeks following the surgery, you may experience some of these symptoms:

  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Blurry vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Watery eyes
  • Puffy eyelids

You will also need to avoid strenuous activity for one to two weeks, but after the first 14 days, you should have no problem returning to your normal daily life.

As the swelling and bruising subside, the results of the surgery should gradually become visible. After a couple of weeks, you should see the full effects. The results should last at least several years, and in many cases, they last a lifetime.
