HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser Treatments in Sarasota and Tampa

The advanced HALO™ hybrid fractional laser combines two different wavelengths to improve skin tone, texture, and discoloration, treat fine lines, improve melasma and acne scarring, minimize pores, and stimulate collagen production for all skin types.

What is the HALO hybrid fractional laser?

HALO is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser, and the first to incorporate micro-ablative and non-ablative lasers in a single device and to the same microscopic treatment zones. The HALO laser was designed to perform a complete skin rejuvenation procedure without the downtime that comes with more aggressive laser treatments.

Combining ablative and non-ablative lasers

Prior to the development of the HALO hybrid fractional laser, patients had to choose between either an ablative treatment or a non-ablative treatment. This was not ideal, as ablative treatments require a long downtime, non-ablative treatments are not as effective as many patients want.

An ablative laser is considered to be the most effective solution to improve signs of aging by removing the outer layers of damaged skin. By triggering the body’s healing mechanism, collagen production is increased and healthier, tighter skin is revealed. However, a fairly long recovery period (up to a week or longer) is necessary after a deep ablative laser treatment.

A non-ablative laser heats the outer layers of the skin, but does not remove them. This results in little or no downtime, but the treatment is not as powerful. This means that repeated treatments are needed to achieve the desired outcome.

The HALO hybrid fractional laser combines both ablative and non-ablative lasers to offer the best of both worlds. By combining both and targeting the epidermis and dermis, respectively, at the same time, HALO offers results that are more similar to ablative laser treatments, but with very little downtime. Most patients experience noticeably improved skin tone and texture after only 1 or 2 treatments. With dual wavelengths, each treatment can be customized based on each patient’s unique needs.

Treatment details

Depending on the areas you’re having treated, you can expect your HALO hybrid fractional laser procedure to take an hour or longer, including prep time and a short skin recovery period. A topical anesthesia will be used to numb the area, and you will be given protective glasses to wear. Patients have described the HALO device as feeling like a “roller ball” passing along the skin. After the device has moved over your skin a few times, your skin will start to feel hot, but not painful. This sensation may continue for up to an hour after treatment, but cooling packs will help if you find this uncomfortable. After your HALO laser treatment, a soothing skin cream will be applied, and chilled air and mineral water mist are used to help dissipate heat from the skin and reduce inflammation.

Recovery

Each patient will respond differently to HALO hybrid fractional laser treatments. Minor swelling and redness are common, but resolve on their own fairly quickly. Your skin may feel warm (like a mild sunburn) for up to 24 hours. You may use cold compresses during this time. Most patients are able to resume normal activities and work the next day.

About 2 or 3 days after treatment, you may see very small dark spots and a bronzed appearance to the skin, which is a natural part of the healing process as treated skin gradually sheds and is replaced by new skin. Your skin will likely feel dry with a rough texture at first before it begins to peel. This typically lasts up to one week with the face, but other treatment areas may take up to two weeks to completely peel. After your skin peels, it will have a healthy glow and noticeably improved skin tone. Make sure you wear sunscreen during this healing process, as your skin will be sensitive to the sun.
