What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable dermal filler. The filler is made from poly-L-lactic acid, which is both biodegradable and biocompatible, meaning it’s safe and easy for your body to process. Sculptra is used to add volume to recessed areas of skin while smoothing the folds. Patients turn to Sculptra when they want to combat significant signs of aging in their skin and/or restore the proportions of their face.

How Is Sculptra Administered?

When you decide to receive a Sculptra treatment in Tampa, it will occur during an office visit. To start, Dr. Holcomb or Dr. Kreithen will numb the area of your skin targeted with a topical anesthetic. Then, the doctor will inject the filler under the skin with a very fine needle. You may feel pressure, but there shouldn’t be any pain.

Sculptra is administered over several sessions for each patient. For optimal results, you should typically receive three or four treatments; each spaced approximately six weeks apart.

What are the benefits of Sculptra?

  • Restored volume to the temples, cheeks, and other areas of the face
  • Reduced smile lines and other folds in the skin
  • Softened prominent cheekbones
  • More defined jawline
  • Safe and FDA-approved
  • More youthful appearance
  • Increased self-esteem
  • Replenished collagen production in the skin

What Results Can You Expect From Sculptra?

Typically, the results of your Sculptra treatment will appear gradually. You may notice that the skin in the targeted area looks a bit fuller and smoother immediately, but it will take time to see the optimal results. In some cases, it can be several months before the full effects of the procedure are visible. Eventually, the treatment area will display significantly more volume and smoother, wrinkle-free skin, creating a more youthful appearance. The results of Sculptra can last up to two years; after that, follow-up treatment will be needed to preserve the effects.

Am I a Candidate for Sculptra?

Men and women who would like to reduce signs of aging skin and/or add volume to recessed areas of the face may be candidates for Sculptra. Ideal candidates for the treatment should meet all of the following requirements:

    • Be in generally good health
    • Have realistic expectations for the treatment
    • Are not currently pregnant or nursing
    • Do not currently have rashes, redness, or other skin issues in the area you want to treat
    • Have areas of skin where you would like to remove folds and/or add volume

    How Much Does Sculptra Cost?

The exact price of a Sculptra treatment can vary depending on the extent of the procedure. The average dermal filler costs around $500 to $1,000 per vial. Typically, each Sculptra treatment will only require one vial, but if you’re targeting a larger area or multiple areas, multiple vials might be required.

      Sculptra FAQs

How does Sculptra differ from other dermal fillers?

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers that offer immediate volume, Sculptra works by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production over time. This results in gradual improvements and longer-lasting facial volume.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients receive a series of three to four sessions spaced about six weeks apart. Your provider will tailor the number of treatments based on your facial anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Why does Sculptra take longer to work than other injectables?

Sculptra doesn't add volume directly. Instead, it triggers collagen production in your skin, which can take several weeks. This process provides more subtle and natural-looking enhancement over time.

Will I need to massage the treated area after Sculptra?

Yes. Patients are typically instructed to massage the treated areas five times a day, for five minutes each time, for five days. This helps ensure the product distributes evenly as collagen builds.

What areas of the face does Sculptra treat best?

Sculptra is most commonly used to restore volume in the temples, cheeks, jawline, and nasolabial folds. Use around the lips or under the eyes is less common and should only be performed by experienced injectors.
