How Botox works

Used for both cosmetic and medical purposes, Botox is made from the bacterium clostridium botulinum. When injected into the muscle that is causing wrinkles or lines, Botox blocks the nerve impulses — which means that the muscle cannot make a wrinkle anymore. Our expert injectors know exactly how much Botox to inject so that the wrinkles are improved while you are still able to make facial expressions.

Types of wrinkles

Did you know that there are two kinds of wrinkles? Knowing whether you have dynamic or static wrinkles will help determine the best way to treat them.

Dynamic wrinkles

There are many muscles in your face that contract when you laugh, frown, squint, furrow your forehead, and make other expressions. When you make these expressions, the muscle contracts and this makes a wrinkle. But if you stop making the expression and the wrinkle fades, it is a dynamic wrinkle.

Static wrinkles

Static wrinkles are the type of wrinkle that can be seen even when you’re not making an expression. Static wrinkles are often the result of a dynamic wrinkle that has become permanent, or when a crease that is not related to muscle movement forms.

Botox treatment details

A Botox treatment takes 10 to 15 minutes. The Botox will be injected directly into the muscles that are causing lines and wrinkles to appear. To minimize discomfort, we use a very small needle.

No recovery time is required, and you will be able to return to your regular activities after treatment. Some redness or pinpoint bleeding may occur after a treatment, but this resolves quickly. Botox is so quick and convenient that many individuals have made it a regular part of their beauty regimen.

Botox FAQ

Will Botox make my face look “frozen”?

When applied by a skilled professional who understands the facial muscles, molecular anatomy, and how to measure units, there is no risk of the dreaded Botox “frozen face”. However, if Botox is not injected properly, you may lose the action of muscles of expression. This is why it’s very important to only receive Botox from an experienced professional.

Is Botox safe?

Yes, Botox is very safe if it is REAL Botox being administered by a skilled, experienced professional; you are not allergic to its ingredients, and when carefully harnessed into small, safe doses. According to both the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Botox is extremely safe. However, it is very important to be aware that “fake” Botox does exist and can be dangerous. Only receive Botox from licensed medical professionals.

How many units of Botox will I need?

The number of units you will need will depend on the area you want to improve and your specific muscle strength. We will be happy to discuss how many units you will need during your consultation.

What will I look like immediately after a Botox treatment?

You can expect some minor, temporary swelling or redness. Ice packs can help to speed recovery from the treatment.

Do the Botox injections hurt?

Most patients say that Botox treatments are no more painful than a mosquito bite. We use a very small needle, and when administered by a skilled and experienced medical professional, the tiny injections should be quick and nearly painless.
