November is here, and that means everyone’s thoughts are starting to focus on Thanksgiving—a time to enjoy family, football, and delicious meals featuring turkey. However, while a turkey dinner is a thing of beauty, a “turkey neck” (also known as a double chin) is quite a bit less so. According to a 2014 survey by The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 68% of people reported that excess fat under the chin and neck was their top cosmetic concern. In fact, double chin represents one of the main cosmetic problem areas patients inquire about at Holcomb – Kreithen Plastic Surgery and MedSpa.
HKPS is pleased to announce it is now offering three of the most advanced, state-of-the-art non-surgical treatment options for safely and effectively eliminating submental fullness—the medical term for turkey neck. The treatment options include Kybella™, CoolSculpting® and Laser-Assisted Neck Contouring.
Kybella™ is a medication that dissolves fat cells and improves neck contour. Kybella is made from deoxycholic acid, a chemical produced in the body that helps absorb fats. Patients can receive two or more small vials of medication in a single treatment, and many of them experience successful results with two or three treatments spaced 1 month apart.
CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical procedure that selectively reduces unwanted fat using a patented cooling technology. It works by gently cooling targeted fat cells in the body to induce them to be eliminated in a natural, controlled way without damaging surrounding tissue. The treated fat cells are permanently removed and patients can expect long-lasting results. The new CoolMini applicator was developed to treat fatty tissue under the chin.
Laser-Assisted Neck Contouring is a procedure that uses a special fiber laser to break up fatty tissue in a minimally-invasive manner. The treated fat is then eliminated through manual removal (using a small liposuction cannula) or through natural absorption by the body. Most patients notice immediate results and obtain lasting improvement with a single treatment.
It should be noted that non- and minimally-invasive approaches are not indicated for everyone. Traditional face and neck lifting or laser-assisted facelift––procedures which are also offered by Holcomb – Kreithen––may be more appropriate for those with greater skin laxity or for those desiring a more immediate improvement.
Make sure that the only turkey this Thanksgiving will be the one on your plate. Call 941-365-8679 to schedule a consultation with one of the surgeons at Holcomb – Kreithen to discuss all the double chin treatment options available.
