What is CoolSculpting?

Discovered and developed by scientists at Harvard, CoolSculpting is a completely non-surgical technology that works by using extreme cold to freeze pockets of stubborn fat and permanently remove them from the body. This process is known as cryolipolysis. CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved body contouring treatment that is best for those who have a healthy lifestyle and who are close to their goal weight.

What Areas Can CoolSculpting Treat?

The CoolSculpting technology is constantly advancing with the development of new applicators to target an increasing number of areas of the body, including:

  • Area under the chin
  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Back/bra fat
  • Neck
  • Buttocks
  • Arms
  • Flanks (love handles)
  • Male chest

CoolSculpting Treatment Details

CoolSculpting treatments do not require any injections, anesthesia, or incisions. You will recline on a chair and a cool sheet will be placed on your skin. After this, cooling panel applicators will be set on top of the cooling sheet. From these panel applicators, vacuum pressure and intense cold will be delivered to the areas to be treated. Most patients have numbness or tingling sensations due to the extreme cold.

After each session is over, the treated areas will initially feel very firm and very cold, but they will gradually return to normal body temperature. Areas of the body that have been previously treated with CoolSculpting can be re-treated for further improvement in a process called "Treat to Complete". Multiple body sites can be treated on the same day if desired. We have had quite a few patients pursue many treatments in a single day to fast-track their overall progress and results.

Candidates for CoolSculpting

If you’re considering CoolSculpting in Tampa, it may be the perfect procedure for you. The best candidates for CoolSculpting:

  • Are near their goal weight
  • Are not pregnant
  • Have enough fat to treat
  • Are generally healthy non-smokers
  • Are not planning to get liposuction
  • Understand the treatment and have realistic expectations

Recovery and results

Immediately after your CoolSculpting treatment, you can return to your regular activities. Side effects may include tenderness to the touch, swelling, bruising, cramping, and sensitivity. These will go away within a few days to one week.

Patients will begin to see results in as little as one month, but more typically in 2 to 4 months as approximately 24% of the treated fat cells undergo a process called apoptosis, which results in the elimination and metabolism of their lipid content. The contour of the treated areas improves during this process of fat cell elimination.
