Contour TRL™ Laser Skin Resurfacing
The Contour TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is regarded as the gold standard in erbium YAG laser skin resurfacing. Dr. Holcomb has used the Contour TRL since 1999 and has written a number of peer reviewed articles and book chapters regarding the use of this laser for skin rejuvenation. The Contour TRL enables a range of treatment options – from shallow peels (NanoLaserPeel™, MicroLaserPeel™) to deep skin resurfacing – with the ultimate control and customization for each patient’s needs and goals available to obtain excellent results ranging from subtle to dramatic.
The Contour TRL Laser Peel Procedure
The laser peel safely removes the outermost layer(s) of skin, with the treatment depth to best address your concerns determined by your physician. The resurfacing depth will depend on the condition of the skin, your goals and the anticipated downtime.
Contour TRL affects skin tissue with incredible precision, which means your skin will be treated with precisely the amount of energy that is required. The laser skin treatment will stimulate the production of new collagen to improve the thickness and texture of the skin while also improving the skin’s outer clarity and brilliance.
Just before the treatment, your skin will be cleansed and your eyes will be covered and protected. A laser handpiece will then be positioned over the skin and held in place while a computer-guided scanner moves the laser beam. Depending on the treatment area(s), this procedure will be completed within just a few minutes for smaller zones up to 30 minutes for the full face.
With shallow treatments, the laser peel is usually well tolerated with topical anesthetic. For deeper treatments, both topical and local anesthetic medications are required and many patients also opt for sedation anesthesia.
Laser Resurfacing Recovery
After your treatment, you may experience redness and your skin may feel like you have a sunburn. There may also be some swelling. You will be instructed to apply a special topical balm to protect the skin during the initial healing process. It is also important to avoid direct sunlight until your skin is fully healed, as the treatment will make your skin more sensitive to sun exposure.
While the complete recovery and healing time will depend on the treatment depth, you can expect a recovery of 3 to 4 days with a shallow treatment ranging up to 5-7 days or longer with a deeper treatment. After the outer skin layers have healed (typically about one week) camouflage mineral makeup may be used. At this point that you will notice improvements in the texture and tone of your skin. A deeper laser skin resurfacing treatment will stimulate collagen remodeling over four to six months, allowing for gradual improvements in the tightness of your skin over time.
