The Eyelid Lift Procedure (Blepharoplasty)

A blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) procedure at our Sarasota facility typically takes one to two hours to complete. During the procedure, we focus on removing the appropriate amount of skin and fat tissue to provide a natural, rejuvenated appearance. To support healing, our surgeons may use the Acclaro UltraClear laser (surgical mode) on the upper eyelid incisions, thereby promoting optimal healing.

If needed, fractional laser resurfacing can be used on the eyelid incisions and surrounding skin to improve texture and further enhance results. This additional step ensures a smoother, more youthful appearance around the eyes.

Since blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, most patients can return home the same day. Upper Eyelid Surgery

An Upper Eyelid surgery utilizes an incision placed near the natural crease of the eyelid to remove excess skin and/or bulging fat.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

A lower eyelid surgery may utilize an incision just below the eyelashes. From this incision, excess skin and bulging fat can be removed.
The transconjunctival approach is commonly performed, with an incision inside the lower eyelid, for patients primarily dealing with bulging fat.
Laser skin resurfacing of the lower eyelids (for example, with the Fractional CO₂ Laser) can be used at the time of a transconjunctival Laser treatment, for improved results.

Recovery from an Eyelid Lift

Recovery from an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) typically takes one to two weeks. Initially, you may experience some soreness or tightness around the eye area. Swelling and bruising are common but generally resolve within 2 to 4 weeks after surgery.

Most patients begin to feel well enough and comfortable with their appearance within four to 14 days, allowing them to return to work or school. However, it's important to allow up to two to three weeks of social downtime before resuming vigorous physical activity. For optimal results, follow-up care and gentle recovery are essential during this period.
