How Does Botox Work?

Botox injections target specific muscles that hold wrinkles in place. When you make facial expressions, including laughing, smiling, yawning, frowning, wrinkling your brow in concentration, squinting in the sun, or any other facial motions, the muscles under the skin contract. These muscles are repeated every day, many times a day. As the aging process continues, the muscles begin to stay in the contracted position. This is how wrinkles form.

Recovery and Results

After a Botox treatment, the recovery period is quite minimal. Patients can return to their usual activities immediately after treatment–no downtime is required. There may be redness or small red bumps once the treatment is complete, but these usually disappear after about an hour.

Wait for a day or two before massaging the area, drinking alcohol, or exercising heavily. Your results will appear within two days or a week after your first Botox treatment. If you’ve had Botox before, you will see your results within a day of your treatment. Your Botox results will last for 3-4 months.
