What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an FDA-approved cosmetic injectable made from synthetic biodegradable (which means it can be broken down by the body) and biocompatible (which means it will not harm the body) material known as poly-L-lactic acid. The Sculptra treatment process requires a series of injections scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart, and the stimulated collagen production builds gradually over time.

The deep tissues of our face changes over time as the years go by. Unfortunately, this can create a hollowed appearance. In addition to this, changes in the bone structure and the fatty tissues can migrate or shift downward, resulting in increased fullness of the mid and lower face. Sculptra treatment details

Sculptra is injected under the skin over a series of sessions. The number of injections per treatment will depend on the level of correction necessary. A topical numbing anesthetic will be used to make the treatment more comfortable. A Sculptra treatment typically takes less than 30 minutes. Most patients receive 3 to 4 treatments over six months, generally spaced six weeks apart. A full course will produce a more youthful appearance that can last longer than two years.

Is Sculptra a filler?

Sculptra should be referred to as a facial volumizer and not as a filler. This is because unlike dermal fillers, results with Sculptra are not immediate. In addition, the results depend on stimulation of natural collagen volume.

Recovery

Patients may experience some swelling immediately after each treatment, which typically subsides within a few days. As with other injectable treatments, redness, swelling, pain and bruising may be present at the injection sites. These side effects are typically mild and go away within a few hours or a few days.

Results

Sculptra results are not immediately noticeable. In fact, for some patients it may take up to one year before the full effects are seen. The results show gradual improvement over time, and last up to two years. We recommend an annual or semi-annual touch-up.
