What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is a dermal filler that has been FDA-approved to restore facial volume and smooth lines and wrinkles. This non-toxic, non-allergenic filler is made of a thicker gel than most other fillers, meaning it is highly effective for improving volume loss and sagging skin. As soon as Radiesse is injected, it begins to work with your body to trigger your own collagen production, with results that can last up to one year.

How Radiesse works

Radiesse is made from of biocompatible calcium (CaHA) microspheres suspended in soft gel. These microspheres occur naturally in your body. Radiesse works to immediately restore facial volume while smoothing away folds and wrinkles.

Once injected, it acts as a scaffold under the skin while stimulating the production of your body’s own supply of collagen. Collagen production continues for months after treatments, which helps to extend the benefits of an initial treatment. Over time, the gel in the solution is absorbed by your body, and the CaHA microspheres are metabolized. This leaves behind only your own collagen.

Treatment, Downtime, and Results

Radiesse is injected under the skin in a short, safe procedure that typically takes less than 15 minutes. The solution contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic that makes the injections almost painless for most patients.

Patients may return to work and resume normal activities shortly after treatment, but mild to moderate (and in some cases, more significant) temporary swelling may occur.

There may also be redness, bruising and/or tenderness at the injection sites for a few days. There is also a small percentage of patients who experience lumpiness where Radiesse was injected, but this will quickly settle.

Results will be visible immediately, and very natural-looking. These results may last up to a year or longer, depending on patient factors such as metabolism.
