NeoGraft 2.0 Treatment Details

Follicular unit extraction works by taking natural groups of several hair follicles at a time from an area of healthy hair (usually the back of the head) and strategically placing them where the patient’s hair is missing or thinning. Anesthetic injections will be used to numb your scalp so that the procedure isn’t uncomfortable for you.

NeoGraft 2.0 uses a hand-held device to make very small, circular incisions directly into the scalp so that the healthy hair follicles can be removed. Once the hair follicle units have been removed, they will be prepped for transplant. A needle-point instrument will be used to make tiny recipient sites where the hair is lost or thinning. The healthy hair follicles will immediately be grafted into these areas in a naturally placed pattern. These grafts will eventually create new hair growth in the needed areas.

The highly ergonomic mechanical NeoGraft 2.0 system works as a natural extension of the surgeons’ hand, allowing for faster and more accurate harvesting of hair follicles. NeoGraft 2.0 allows patients to reach their goal with less time in the procedure room — or fewer FUE procedures altogether.

The NeoGraft system has pneumatic controls that can remove up to 3000 hair follicles in a single session. When performed by hand, only 500 can be removed in a session.

With NeoGraft, there’s no cutting, pulling, or twisting, so there’s no risk of damaging the graft. The grafts can also be placed sooner, which keeps them more robust and viable, resulting in a natural-looking hairline.

Results

The science behind grafting is simple: Healthy follicles that are currently growing hair are taken from the back of the head and moved to where they’re needed. The follicles that hold the newly transplanted hair are living tissues that grow cyclically. Once the normal hair follicle has been implanted into the balding area, the grafted hair will stay in place for about 2 to 3 weeks before shedding. This is normal, and also an important part of the new growth process.

After shedding, the new growth will begin in 3 to 4 months, and your hair will continue to grow normally. More importantly, your results will look healthy and natural. However, hair loss does not stop after transplantation. Some patients will need continued maintenance, and further sessions will likely be needed — particularly if the balding pattern progresses with age.
