The science behind grafting is simple: Healthy follicles that are currently growing hair are taken from the back of the head and moved to where they’re needed. The follicles that hold the newly transplanted hair are living tissues that grow cyclically. Once the normal hair follicle has been implanted into the balding area, the grafted hair will stay in place for about 2 to 3 weeks before shedding. This is normal, and also an important part of the new growth process.
After shedding, the new growth will begin in 3 to 4 months, and your hair will continue to grow normally. More importantly, your results will look healthy and natural. However, hair loss does not stop after transplantation. Some patients will need continued maintenance, and further sessions will likely be needed — particularly if the balding pattern progresses with age. An estimate of the number of procedures you will need can be discussed during your initial consultation.
